Canada’s Bakelite’s sound is comparable to early Rapture or Adult, but with their influences but with their influences leaning more towards early noise and experimentalists such as Throbbing Gristle or Nihilist Spasm Band. Their 6 track EP exclusively for Exo Records consists of 4 previously recorded tracks and two new tracks re recorded with live drums. This EP captures the paranoia and alienation of groups like early Cabaret Voltaire, Suicide, Minimal Man and Chrome combined with electro disco beats of DFA and Devo. if they were fronted by the pleading vocals of Cure’s Robert Smith. In other words, this is robotic gestures of Adult, or the kitschy plastic spectacles of Fischerspooner, and closer to dirty-ass punk psychodramas of T. Raumschmiere and Peaches, minus their contrived obnoxiousness. Bakelite been the main support for acts such as Nina Hagen, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Chromatics and The Organ to name a few. They have exclusively to Exo Records released Revision EP, Very limited lathe cut screen printed 10” and are currently writing a new album for Exo Records.
